About Karen Hasegawa
Why do art? I believe it is the feeling of joy that I get from expressing my view of the world around me. Through my art and photography, I capture small moments in time and show them to others through the lens of my personal viewpoint. Always entranced with nature, I find myself attempting to arrest time by capturing a special moment on "film" or on fabric with my silk dyes.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I have lived and traveled through Asia and currently have a home art studio in Maple Ridge, BC. My passion for creating has been life-long with a career in graphic design, art courses in all media, and an education at UBC and Emily Carr Institute. Influences from Japanese culture and the design world have inspired and refined my artistic talents. I enjoy working with pastels, silk dyes and batik resists, currently. Being an avid photographer and gardener, I bring my joy of colour and nature into all of my designs and art with a style that varies from representational to whimsical.
